SNOW LEOPARD!!!

August 28, 2009

MacMiniSnow Leopard arrived at my door this morning, so naturally I immediately installed it. I did a little cleanup work last night to ensure all would go well, but come on, it’s Apple, all would go well even if I decided to install it underwater.

Once the install was done, 8.22 GB of space was cleared up on my boot drive and the whole system, which is the first Intel version of the Mac Mini, runs a little better, and dare I say even smells and looks better. The few user interface changes that were made are nice and make for more efficient use of the OS, unlike some companies that add features that are less efficient to use. I don’t want to name names, but Flip 3D comes to mind. What a waste of time and resources. If I wanted to push 3 keys at once, then repeatedly push an arrow key until the app I want appears roughly three minutes later and God forbid I accidentally pass it the first time through, then I would be either insane or would just have a lot of time on my hands and nothing better to do. Anyhoo, Snow Leopard is still all of the stuff I loved about Leopard, but smaller and faster. And better smelling. And only $29. And awesome. And I am pretty sure it saved some stray puppies while installing. That’s right, it’s a great operating system with a heart of gold.

Sweet, Sweet Vacation

August 27, 2009

Ah, vacation. What a wonderful invention. This year we decided to stay close to home and spend a few days at Mt. Magazine State Park hiking and ATV riding. And not only that, but Apple decided to release Snow Leopard this week. How sweet is that? I’ll tell you. It’s pretty darned sweet.

FOOTBALL!!!

August 16, 2009

There for a while I was starting to think that football season was never going to start. Granted, that would have saved me from sending giant wads of cash to DirecTV for my annual NFL Sunday Ticket subscription, which is the single greatest thing ever conceived of by man, if it hadn’t started, but it has and now I shall dance the dance of a thousand joys.

During the offseason, I completely reworked my football board, such that it was, using PHP and mySQL, which I only mention because I like acronyms and it makes me sound super smart. You can find the link to it over to the right under the Links section, of all places. Once you get there, you can register to play on the login page. I know I should add a register link to the main page, and one day I just might, but for now just do what I tell you. So if you are good at picking between two things were the odds are 50/50 you will get it right, then by all means join in but be prepared for taunting if I grab the lead at any point.

Waterparks and Hot Chicks

August 14, 2009

I went to a local waterpark the other day… with hot chicks. That’s really the only point to the story, but I’ll go ahead and throw in some fluff just to round it out.

So, at the waterpark, they have three sets of slides. The small set, the medium set, and the large set. We started out on the medium set, then moved to the large set where they had a regular tube type water slide and then they have this giant funnel contraption where you hurl through a tube at high speeds, then at the end you hang a hard left where you are shot out into a giant funnel where you continue hanging a hard left until you are then shot out the bottom into a whirlpool where, if you are lucky, you will swirl around a few laps then get ejected onto shore and if you are not lucky you get pulled into the vortex and a lifeguard has to jump in with a giant piece of Styrofoam and float you to safety. I was one of the lucky ones, but I swear to God two people got sucked in and had to be hauled out while we were there.

This led me to stick mostly to the tube type slide, although as the day progressed, my speeds on the slide increased until eventually I would round the curves so high that I would leave the stream of water and be sliding entirely on dry plastic, which was in no way whatsoever comfortable. Damp skin careening at high speeds across dry plastic makes a screeching sound and a burning sensation that are both equally unsettling.

But the good news is I was there with hot chicks.
Hot chicks!!

I was also the architect of this sweet-assed swan dive.

And here we are pointing to the rules that apply to us.
