Corn in the Hedgerow

August 14, 2009

The other day I noticed something unusual in the flower-bed area that runs along the front of our house. I don’t pretend to know the inner workings of nature, but I am certain that at no point in time did I nor any other person plant corn in there. And yet, there it is. And it’s not just one stalk of corn, it’s an entire row of corn.

I’m not going to lie to you, I think it is entirely awesome that a row of corn is naturally occurring in our flower-bed. In fact, I am thinking of posting a weekly corn update on twitter. Of course, that makes me a little nervous as I am not 100 percent sure it’s corn because it is apparently still in the larvae stage and hasn’t bloomed or sprouted or whatever it does when it starts shooting corn cobs out of it’s innards. It could easily turn out to be very large grass and then I would look foolish, albeit only slightly, because it seriously looks just like corn.
