Let me start with a bit of background information. There was a hole in a wall in my house. Yes, I put it there. And yes, it was on purpose. Sure, I had no idea how I would fix it once it was there, but I forged ahead anyway, hoping that things would just magically work out in the end. Turns out I didn’t need magic, just awesomeness, of which I have plenty.
The reason I put the hole in the wall is because water was leaking from the roof into the wall. The reason water was leaking through the roof is likely because I installed an antenna on the roof, then took it down and didn’t properly fill the holes with the correct material. I cut the hole to make sure water was no longer leaking into the wall. Once I patched the roof and waited for a few heavy rains to come along, I was satisified that the leak had been stopped. Then it was time to patch the wall. Here is where I started:
I made the hole nice and rectangular as you can see. Then I cut a matching piece out of some sheetrock that was left over from when the house was built. Then I bolted that sucker into the hole and applied some sheetrock compound of some sort along with some tape because I think that is how it is supposed to be done.
Note the innovative use of the backside of the sheetrock facing out. I did that on purpose. Or should I say I left it that way on purpose once I realized what I had done.
Then I painted it with some white primer paint, like so:
Then I added some spray-on texture stuff to match the rest of the wall, like so:
Then I cleaned up the slight mess I had made along the way.
Once everything had dried, I slapped a coat of paint on it and viola! Good as freakin’ new.
So to summarize:
Hole in wall + awesomeness = brand new wall.
